As I ponder what to write for today’s blog, or at least think about which words I can use to sum up the disappointment I am struggling to cope with given our current residence at the bottom of the Championship, with Sky Sports news writers on in the back ground.
And, for a brief few moments, my attention is drawn away from my laptop.
Michel Platini has released a statement reaffirming his innocence following his recent 90 day suspension from FIFA, an organisation he hopes to lead in the near future.
Although my interest in international football has dwindled in recent years I am still, like all true football fans, in love with the World Cup and care greatly how our sport is perceived and promoted around the world.
The custodians of the game, and those at its helm, are nothing short of a disgrace. I hope our far from perfect FA withdraw their nomination for Mr Platini following this recent scandal.
Anyway, back to what I am supposed to be writing about. Bristol City conceded a goal in the 94th minute in their last home match against the Milton Keynes Dons. Most would also concede it was nothing more than they deserved.
Although our first half performance was encouraging, especially with another super impressive performance from Jonathan Kodjia, our second half performance was nothing short of a capitulation.
Our side looked so terrified of losing. The players struggled to push out when balls were cleared from our defence. We failed to get numbers forward to support anyone with any attacking intent and our first shot on target in the second half came after their goal, so, in summary, we completely caved in.
But that was then, and this is now. Almost a full two weeks will have passed since that disappointing defeat when City next take to the pitch this Friday night. Cotteril’s former club Nottingham Forest will be welcomed to Ashton Gate this weekend. In those intervening thirteen days City have signed two more loan players taking our number of loans this season to six.
Elliot Bennet looks like a decent player and will hopefully give us more options. He has played on the right side of midfield so this may mean us trying the much talked about (by me) 4-4-2.
Simon Cox is a player who City have tried to sign in the past, at 28 he is of the right age to add some experience to our young squad. If he lives up to his potential a permanent signing could be on the cards.
So, lets try and forget the woeful way that we threw away two points in our previous match and look forward to our first three home points of the season.
