‘Please leave Pemberton and Elliot in charge’
I ended last weeks blog suggestion that we needed a new left-back and a striker, so, you won’t be surprised that not only have I been delighted by the arrival of Lee Tomlin and Scott Golburne, but I have also upped my activity on my online bookie account, started playing the lottery and reading palms.
So, two very encouraging signings. I remember Scott from first time round and I guess he is a player who has never quite realised the promise that he had as a seventeen year old who left City for a comparability large fee ten years ago to join Reading.
Having said that, he has had successful Championship spells at both Barnsley and Wolves so offers us much needed experience at this level, plus, at 27, he is supposedly in his footballing prime.
is needed now More than ever
Lee Tomlin joins us after a potentially controversial last few month or two in the South coast with the odd Twitter indiscretion and falling out with Cherries boss Eddie Howe.
But, beggars certainly can’t be choosers and Tomlin should offer us some quality in the final third of the pitch that has been all too lacking this season. And, again, Tomlin will give us that Championship experience, is a good age and hopefully has a point or two to prove.
We’ve been linked to all sorts of managing options since the departure of Cotterill. From the unrealistic, Moyes and Pearson, to the unwelcome, Warnock and Pearce.
Steve Lansdown has said he is going to personally oversee the new appointment. Fair enough, I guess, but I think I am with most City fans who really don’t want any major changes before the end of the season.
Although results have not gone our way this season performances have certainly warranted a bigger yield of points. The players look committed and their effort can not be questioned.
So, Mr Lansdown, a plea. Please leave Pemberton and Elliot in charge till the end of the season and see where we are then. If we manage to stay in the league, one would think we would be in a much stronger position to appoint a new boss than where we are now, and, heaven forbid, if we do go down the new boss wouldn’t have the blot of relegation on their record.
So this Saturday we will welcome a couple of new players and renewed defensive rigidity to Ashton Gate. Lets hope that combination can get us three points this Saturday at home to Birmingham.
