Rovers want to create ‘multi-purpose facility’ at Almondsbury training ground

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Sep 27, 2023

Bristol Rovers have revealed ambitious expansion plans for their training ground in Almondsbury.

Plans include enhanced training facilities at The Quarters for the club’s women’s team and youth academy, as well as new infrastructure for community use.

Ideas include a public gym, a match-ready community football pitch, rooms available for community hire and improved public footpath infrastructure.

The local community can have their say on the future of the site on Hortham Lane in a survey for residents which is being carried out by Monmouthshire-based communications consultancy Thirty47.

The Quarters is the first training facilities owned by the club, with the Rovers first team moving to The Quarters in October 2020 from temporary facilities at the University of Bristol’s Coombe Dingle complex.

In his most recent programme notes, Rovers chief exec Tom Gorringe said: “Away from the Mem, we have also held positive discussions regarding our ambitions to develop The Quarters to further meet the requirements of the first team, the academy and our commercial aspirations.

“We have undertaken a formal engagement with the residents of the area to allow them their input into the project which we feel can provide real value to the local area, the general public, whilst also improving the facilities for the club.

“As soon as there are any formal updates on our intrastructure improvements we will ensure that these are communicated to supporters at the earliest opportunity.”
