Great Bristol 10K adds new Family Mile

By Alison Maney  Wednesday Mar 16, 2016

For the first time, the Great Bristol 10K is including a Family Mile.

The new activity will run alongside the main Great Bristol 10K on May 15, with children as young as three able to run around a small course with their families.

“We’re really pleased to be able to include a family element in the event this year,” says the Great Bristol 10K’s event manager Tom Westman. “It’s so important to encourage children to enjoy being active from a young age.”

Runners of the Family Mile are encouraged to raise money for the Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children’s Hospital charity and the official local charity of the event.

“We’re thrilled to be the official local charity of the Family Mile at this year’s Great Bristol 10K,” says Suzanne Maverick, the Grand Appeal’s community and events fundraising manager. “It’s a great way to encourage mums, dads and little ones to be active together, all while raising vital funds to help Bristol Children’s Hospital care for sick children from across the south west, and further afield.”

Entries are still open for the Great Bristol 10K. Over 12,000 participate in the race, making it Bristol’s biggest running event. Participation in the Family Mile costs £7.
