Great Bristol 10k / Great Bristol Run

UK’s first 10k race for partially sighted runners features in return of Great Bristol Run

By Martin Booth  Monday Sep 20, 2021

More than 10,000 runners took to the streets of Bristol on Sunday for the return of the Great Bristol Run.

The event included both a 10k and a half marathon, with runners setting off at the same time needing to make sure they kept to their required distance.

The day also included the first dedicated 10k race in the UK for blind and partially sighted runners, who set off in the Visually Impaired (VI) Runners 10K Challenge just a few minutes before the mass start for the 10k and half marathon races on Anchor Road.

Bristol mayor Marvin Rees was a guide for one of the visually impaired runners, Diane Bentham, who was the first woman across the line in 46:58. The first man across the line was Khalid Elkhereiji in 41:30.

The Great Bristol Family Mile also saw hundreds of children and their families take part, many raising money for the event’s official charity, The Grand Appeal.
