Win at Great Bristol 10k for Bristol & West

By Alison Maney  Tuesday May 31, 2016

The Bristol & West Athletic Club won big during the Great Bristol 10k but the benefits of their success may continue long after the race’s end.

The club won the inaugural Club Challenge, earning the fastest average finishing time among their first four men and women to cross the finish line.

In the end, the club’s average time was 35.27 minutes, squarely beating Westbury Harriers (39.00 minutes) and South West Road Runners (40.26 minutes).

The first place prize included £500 towards club development and 15 free entries to next year’s Great Bristol 10k.

But even now, the benefits of winning the Club Challenge may still be coming to the Bristol & West Athletic Club. Along with the winners of the Club Challenges in the eight other Great Run races around the UK, the club will be entered into a draw to win a trip to the Great Ethiopian run, as well as other prizes.

“We were delighted to hear that we have won the Club Challenge,” said Keith, the club’s development adviser. “If everyone is fit, we would stand a chance of performing really well in Ethiopia. And what more of an incentive would our top road runners need to get fit for November?”

The winning team will also get to meet the world’s greatest ever distance runner, Haile Gebrselassie. They will then run the Great Ethiopian run with 37,000 other runners.

If the club wins second place, they receive ten free entries for the 2017 Great Bristol 10k. If it wins third, they will receive five free entries.
