22-year-old aims to make Bristol fitter

By Sofi Carter  Thursday Feb 9, 2017

22-year-old Robert Leat graduated from the University of Bath in 2014, moved to Bristol and became a personal trainer. It was during this time that he stumbled across a gap in the market. Speaking to people who he knew or trained, Robert came to realise that there was a large group of people – often professionals – who wanted to get fit but simply lacked the time to do it.

“I was talking to office workers and they told me they’d love to get into exercise but had no time,” he says. He pondered the problem for a while before hitting on a solution: by writing a book he could provide busy individuals with a guide to refer back to, at a time that would suit them. He also realised that not everybody can afford the personal training sessions they might require to get to the fitness level they want, so the book would help to make fitness accessible to everyone.

“It’s about breaking fitness down into five simple steps, so that people can change their bodies and their eating habits,” Robert says. He hopes that the book will provide a permanent solution to people who feel they are too busy to exercise, by changing their lifestyles as well as getting them fit.

With his degree in fitness and experience in personal training, Robert is well equipped to deal with queries and problems, even offering motivational coaching online via video chat if a client is out of the area. He won’t make them do a workout then and there, he assures, but will be there to offer mentoring and motivation, and to see how they’re keeping up with the training.

In an age of fitness apps, digital trackers and online motivation, there are so many more solutions to finding time to exercise than ever before. So there’s no excuse: embrace the technology, engage with the process and remember that the only thing you need to do in real life is lace up your running shoes.

Robert’s book, ‘Five ways professionals can burn fat,’ is available to download: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N0SM2EI
