Alex Beresford becomes ambassador for Empire Fighting Chance
Founded in 2013, the award-winning charity Empire Fighting Chance aims to fight the impacts of deprivation and poverty on the lives of Bristol’s young people.
Bristol-born TV personality and weather presenter Alex Beresford became involved with the charity while recording a knife crime documentary earlier this year.
“While I was here filming at Empire Fighting Chance, I just got a great feeling about them,” Beresford told Bristol24/7.

He was inspired to join the Easton organisation as ambassador after realising that the charity and himself shared the same passions, both in fitness and in helping young people in all aspects of life.
“It’s not just about boxing here, it goes a lot deeper than that,” he said. “I believe in sport, but they also apply discipline into people’s lives, and the kids get help with their schoolwork.”
Being an ambassador, Alex will let people know about the good work that is happening and help young people at the organisation.
“I grew up in this area, and I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth.
“I had to work for everything. Things are possible, and it is important to try and make the right choices in your life. I really hope that I can come here, bring my experience, help the guys and raise some much-needed funds.
“I want to help as many children as possible, because there are so many kids in Bristol that need help. Poverty is very much an issue.
“There are invisible barriers that kids come up against all the time, and they don’t always have the right support at home. Empire Fighting Chance provides these opportunities.”

Alex loves to work with young people, particularly from deprived areas, who’ve got “bundles of talent”.
He added: “It just needs to be nurtured in the right way. That’s why I’m here today and that’s why I’ll continue to do it, while I have the powers to help people. Helping people is important.”
