Bristol+Bath Marathon not happening this year

By Alison Maney  Wednesday Apr 20, 2016

The new Bristol + Bath Marathon will not be taking place this year, instead returning for the second time in October 2017.

“The Bristol + Bath Marathon was a real stand out event for runners in 2015, and we have worked closely with our partners and the three councils involved to confirm its return,” says Jamie Warren, event organiser for the entity arranging the marathon, GO2 Events.

“Due to the number of major events requiring road closures in the Bristol area this year, we have agreed with Bristol City Council that the event will not take place in 2016 but have confirmed a provisional date for the second instalment of the Bristol + Bath Marathon in 2017.”

The Bristol + Bath Marathon encompasses a 26.2 mile course of closed roads beginning in the centre of Bristol. The runners, of which there were 6,500 in 2015, then make their way through the South Gloucestershire countryside to Bath’s Royal Victoria Park.

“Bristol has an outstanding reputation for welcoming cultural and sporting events all year round,” says Laura Pye, Bristol City Council’s head of culture. “We are looking forward to working with organisers to welcome runners and spectators to the city for the Bristol + Bath Marathon in 2017.”

Further details regarding the marathon will be revealed in the next few weeks. Interested runners may preregister at www.bristolbathmarathon.co.uk.
