Bristol City Hall hosts international boxing
School, junior, youth and elite fights took place in City Hall on Saturday as Bristol hosted international boxing for the first time in many years.
Fighters from across England took on their compatriots from Ireland in a variety of weight divisions in front of a crowd that included special guests former super middleweight world champion Glenn Catley and former British light-welterweight champion Darren Hamilton.
The event was organised by Downend Boxing Club with Dennis Stinchcombe, director of the Broad Plain and Riverside Youth Project, acting as the master of ceremonies at the first event of its kind at City Hall.

Also in the crowd was Bristol mayor Marvin Rees – who boxed to a high standard as a youngster – and Kye Dudd, cabinet member for sport.
“What I love is that we are bringing international amateur boxing to Bristol. It’s amazing to bring international sport like this to the city,” Rees told Bristol24/7.
“We could be looking at a future Olympic champion here. As a city, we should be holding international events like this, and it’s great to do it here at City Hall.”
