Bristol doctor beats world double-buggy marathon record
A junior doctor at Bristol Children’s Hospital has broken a world record by completing the Abingdon Marathon pushing his two young children in a double buggy in support of The Great Appeal and Bristol Orthopaedic Trust.
Dr David Bruce, who specialises in orthopaedics, completed the race alongside his two children Daniel and Emilia in two hours and fifty-four minutes, beating the previous world record by a full fifteen minutes.
Asked about the race by the BBC, David said: “It was a lovely day and the kids were brilliant. I had a pouch full of snacks, milk and games for them, but I didn’t need to stop once. We had an early start, so they had a sleep and then they were just chatting and playing.”
is needed now More than ever
David’s wife, Jessica, had previously broken the world record for running a marathon while pushing a double-buggy in 2017 with a time of three hours and twenty-two minutes and already held the world record for the fastest marathon with a single pram.
David, who describes himself as a keen runner, stated on his Crowdfunding page that he wanted to raise money to support the “hard work of all the staff” at Bristol Children’s Hospital. David’s own daughter and nephew have been treated as patients at the hospital, and he said he was impressed with the “kind and supportive care received”.
David aims to raise £1,000 for his two chosen charities. Donate by visiting www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/doublebuggymarathon
