New generation of dancers inspired by visit
From Birmingham to Bedminster, the prestigious Birmingham Royal Ballet visited Bristol to perform a workshop at Parson Street Primary School.
A collection of overexcited students sat, perched on the edge of their seats, awaiting the arrival of the dancers. A stage was prepared and a collection of extravagant costumes lined the walls of the hall, being admired and discussed by all who were present.
Pearl Chesterman, director of participation and engagement at Birmingham Royal Ballet, took to the stage to introduce the two dancers running the workshop.

The impressive demonstrations of ballet positions were followed by an invitation for the students to try some of the poses for themselves, with costumes to try on and dance around in.
“We want to to inspire young people to want to get involved in ballet,” one of the dancers explained.
Head teacher of Parson Street Primary School, Jamie Barry, has a special relationship with the ballet company, as a young boy he was involved in a dance group supported by Birmingham Royal Ballet
The relationship is clearly beneficial, as the workshop was a definite success in promoting ballet to the next generation of dancers.
