Running in memory of Dan

By Pamela Parkes  Tuesday Aug 30, 2016

Around 50 friends and family members of Dan Hickey, 25, who was killed in a hit and run incident in Clifton last year, are running the Great Bristol Half Marathon in his memory.

Dan, from Bishopston, was found outside The Richmond pub on Gordon Road at 6.45am on August 29.

The Dan Hickey Fund, set up by family and friends, has raised more than £20k to support and develop young people through sport and drama.

These were Dan’s two big loves in life says his mother Cecilia Browne, who will be running in the race herself.

She says the family have been “overwhelmed by the support we have received from Dan’s friends and the wider community since setting up the fund”.

Dan’s brother Joe, sister Elizabeth, former schoolmates from Bristol Cathedral School, fellow students from Leicester University and team mates from Bristol Saracens will join 10,000 other runners to compete in the half marathon on September 25.

Tayo Jones, of Southville Road, Southville, was jailed for three years in April 2016 after admitting causing with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident.
