Bristol24/7 Sportswoman of the Year 2019: Lily Owsley
In May, Mark Hager, the Great Britain women’s coach, said that Lily Owsley is on her way to becoming one of the top players in world hockey.
Owsley has now amassed more than 150 international appearances and this year helped Team GB quality for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as well as score an incredible solo goal against Belgium in the 2019 FIH Pro League.

Growing up it seemed there was no end to Owsley’s sporting prowess as she demonstrated her talent in hockey, football and athletics – finishing second over 800m at the 2012 English Schools’ Championships.
But after being introduced to hockey aged 13 at Clifton College, Owsley never looked back. In 2016, she made her Olympic debut in Rio where she scored the first goal of the tournament, before scoring again in the final against the Netherlands, helping the team to win Team GB’s first hockey gold since 1988.

Owsley turns 25 this month, with 2019 yet more building blocks before she and Team GB look to retain their gold medal at next year’s Tokyo Olympics.
