Bears call the tune but fall to Exeter

By Martin Booth  Friday Dec 29, 2023

Bristol Bears players now have their choice of music played over the speakers at Ashton Gate when they score a try in a home game.

From Fatboy Slim to Fred Again, the Cranberries to Kendrick Lamar, the Bears squad certainly have an eclectic musical taste.

On Friday night, Gabriel Oghre had the honour of being the first to have his selection blasted in BS3 with Amapiano by Asake and Olamide.

Next it was Noah Heward, whose acrobatic effort after ludicrously quick hands by Benhard Janse van Rensburg was followed by his pick of Going Home by Mark Knopfler.

But it was only those two tries scored by the Bears who couldn’t provide a late Christmas present as Exeter won 24-14.

England coach Steve Borthwick, sat next to Ellis Genge, was among the 24,257 spectators blowing off the Twixtmas cobwebs.

It was the largest crowd of the season so far at Ashton Gate – who enjoyed one of the best sights in rugby as a big second rower finds himself in loads of space, with TLC fan Joe Batley storming through the centre of the park and chasing his own grubber kick.

But No Scrubs will have to wait for another day.
