Bristol Bears fans meet Ellis Genge on his return to club

By Martin Booth  Thursday Aug 25, 2022

The prodigal son has returned.

“Is there anything you want to say?” Bristol Bears director of rugby Pat Lam asked Ellis Genge as he was introducing every player on the pitch at Ashton Gate as the players took part in an open training session.

Genge was handed the microphone. Fans waited expectantly for some pearls of wisdom. “Hello,” he said, before walking off to sign some more shirts, balls and posters.

Having grown up in Knowle West and gone to school at what is now John Cabot Academy in Kingswood, Genge has spent the last six years in Leicester.

But the 27-year-old is now back home.

Here’s hoping he can inspire the Bears to a return to form for the upcoming season, which begins with a visit of Bath to Ashton Gate on the evening of Friday, September 9.
