Bristol Rugby promoted to Premiership
Nineteen wins out of 20 games so far have ensured that Bristol Rugby are guaranteed to finish top of the Championship this season and secure a return to the Premiership.
Bristol’s victory over Nottingham on Friday, coupled with closest rival Ealing’s loss to Doncaster, means that the title will be heading to Ashton Gate.
“I’m very proud of everybody in the organisation – the players, staff, supporters and the board,” said head coach Pat Lam.
“They’ve done a tremendous job. We were favourites to do it, but there’s been a lot of hard work put in.
“We’re back in the Premiership and that was our goal, but the hard work steps up and the preparations continue for the top flight. We’ve been clear that our vision is Champions Cup, a pathway for England and Bristolians coming through.
“The first step was to get out of the Championship and now we have to prepare for the next phase.”
Bristol Rugby’s final home game of the season at 7.45pm on Friday, April 13 promises to be a promotion party, with bands pre- and post-match, a stage for live entertainment in the concourse, food stalls and bars in the fan village, and of course the Championship trophy presentation. This year, Bristol Ladies Rugby finished sixth following their first campaign in the Tyrrells Premier 15s, with nine wins and eight defeats in an encouraging maiden season in the competition.
