Knowle Wester Ellis Genge named captain of England

By Martin Booth  Thursday Mar 9, 2023

Ellis Genge will lead England out as captain on Saturday when they take on France at Twickenham.

The Knowle West-born rugby player, who returned to his hometown club this season, will be joined in the front row by his Bristol Bears teammate Kyle Sinckler.

Genge, who grew up in Knowle West, will become only the sixth player to captain England as a Bristol player and the first since Richard Harding in 1988.

“Congratulations to Ellis Genge who will captain the side for the first time,” said England head coach Steve Borthwick.

“Ellis will lead from the front with the sort of dedication and spirit that now rightly typifies this England team.”
