Match report: Bristol Bears Women 24-53 Gloucester-Hartbury

By bristolbearsrugby.com  Saturday Dec 7, 2019

Gloucester-Hartpury come out on top in the West Country derby as Bears Women were defeated in their final home game of 2019.

Gloucester-Hartpury opened the scoring inside the opening ten minutes as Tauasosi picked up from the base of a ruck to rumble over the line after the initial break from Hunt.

It didn’t take long for the Bears to respond as Marston went on a barn-storming run in the Cherry and White’s twenty-two, fending off three defenders before offloading to Nielson to dot down and draw the sides level.

The visitors hit back with a swift score through Dougan, before Underwood scored a fine solo effort to stretch their lead out to 7-19 after twenty-six minutes.

Snowsill reduced the deficit to nine after converting a penalty goal, but Gloucester-Hartpury immediately stepped on the accelerator as Smith and Large both crossed before half-time to make it 10-31 to the visitors.

Both sides battled to get on the front-foot at the start of the second period and it was Gloucester-Hartpury who landed to first blow as Febrey burrowed her way over the line after a period of sustained pressure on the Bears line.

Murphy’s score no little than five minutes later saw Gloucester-Hartpury extend their lead to 10-43, before the Bears responded through Pam.

Snowsill put the ball into the corner from a penalty and the Bears managed to get their driving maul rolling with Pam being the beneficiary at the base to score a try on her first Tyrrell’s Premier 15s start.

Aldcroft crossed five minutes from time for the visitors, but the Bears got a consolation score of their own and it was some effort from Keira Bevan.

The scrum-half squeezed through the tightest of gaps on the edge of the twenty-two before dancing past two defenders on her way to the try line.

However, the last say would go to Gloucester-Hartpury as Natasha Hunt picked from the base of a ruck inside the Bears’ five metre line and the scrum-half found a gap to dart over the chalk.
