Music meets rugby at SW7s festival

By Bristol24/7  Monday May 11, 2015

This summer a new Bristol festival will welcome up to three and a half thousand guests for a weekend of sport and true festival vibes. Taking place over the weekend of June 19 to 21, South West 7s brings a large-scale seven-a-side Rugby tournament together with bands, DJs, comedy, food and drink.

If you’re into rugby, then it’s time to polish up those boots. The weekend offers Sevens and Touch Rugby tournaments for men and women of all levels and abilities, including professional, veterans and people who play socially.

There are prizes to be won in all amateur events, while the Invite Cup – reserved for pro and semi-pro players – offers £1000 prize money donated to Clic Sargent and Coppafeel. If you fancy competing in any of the tournaments yourself you can enter your team here

Meanwhile, England Rugby 7s player and Bristol resident Dan Norton will be on site for children’s rugby development session.

SW7s isn’t just about sport though. It’s a summer festival with weekend camping and a quality lineup of entertainment. Musically it offers a varied mix of touring bands and talent from Bristol’s own thriving scene and beyond. Among the attractions are Southend pop band Youth Club, Zambian rock ‘n’ rollers Bite the Buffalo and Eton Messy-affiliated deep housers The Golden Boy, plus Lloyd Yates, Felon, Bridges, Rob Green, Circe’s Diner and many more.

Family entertainment also features strongly, and there’s a comedy stage for festival-goers who don’t feel like partying into the early hours. There’s no shortage of food and drink either, with a selection of artisanal beer, wine and cider from across the local area. Day tickets are available for those who don’t want to camp, and the venue is Clifton Rugby Club so many Bristolians will be able to get home on foot.

If you’re looking to do things in style, there’s a VIP area with an exclusive bar, chill out area, exclusive band and DJ performances and a Secret Disco until 2am. The festival’s organisers describe SW7s as “a celebration of the finest sport and music from across the UK, hosted in the rugby heartland of the South-West.”
