Stadium record broken for derby clash

By Bristol24/7  Tuesday Oct 15, 2019

Friday’s Gallagher Premiership opener will be a new stadium attendance record for a sporting event at Ashton Gate.

26,399 spectators are set to flock to BS3 for Bristol Bears’ opening clash of the new campaign against Bath Rugby, with every ticket snapped up for the West Country derby.

The official attendance surpasses the 26,088 that witnessed Bristol City’s 2-1 victory over Manchester United in the 2017 Carabao Cup quarter-final.

Alapati Leiua’s 73rd-minute try fired Bristol Bears to a thrilling 17-10 victory over Bath on the opening day of the 2018/19 Gallagher Premiership season.

In addition, Ashton Gate will also welcome a record number of hospitality clients, with over 1600 enjoying the matchday experience.

A Bears spokesman said: “Everybody at the club would like to thank our loyal supporters for their backing and we look forward to hosting Bristol and Bath fans on what should be a spectacular evening on Friday night.”
