Bristol24/7 Student Guide 2020: Street art
Hometown of world-famous street artist Banksy, Bristol is covered in street art.
Banksy
You can’t talk about Bristol’s street art without talking about Banksy. The artist’s works can be found across the city and include Girl with the Pierced Eardrum on Spike Island, which was daubed with a face mask during lockdown.
For a lesser known Banksy, have a look at Rose Trap on Thomas Street North, near Stokes Croft.
Turbo Island, Stokes Croft
This area of land in Stokes Croft used to have a shop on it which was destroyed in the Second World War. The council refused planning permission for a new building, saying it would obstruct drivers’ views, leading to an area of privately owned land that is open to all.
The area, named after a strong form of home-brewed cider, is home to an advertising board and regularly changing street art. Just across the street, you can find Stokes Croft China, which sells local art. Walk through the rest of Stokes Croft to see even more street art around every corner.

Greta Thunberg mural, Bedminster
Located in Bedminster, this 15-metre high mural took eight days to paint by Bristol artist Jody Thomas.

Quay Street, city centre
Quay Street in the city centre is full of larger-than-life art painted on the side of some of Bristol’s taller buildings, including El Mac’s Mother and Child.
