The best of Bristol’s art
If you’re not an art buff yet, prepare for Bristol to educate you. Not only is this the home of street art, but there’s also a strong community of contemporary artists living and working in the city, and regular touring exhibitions to take in.
Arnolfini

The gallery hosts a range of exhibitions throughout the year, in spaces ranging from intimate to huge. The exhibitions are generally free. Arnolfini also hosts performances, film screenings, talks and workshops, and has the best arts bookshop in Bristol.
Hamilton House

A staple part of the Stokes Croft cityscape, community arts centre Hamilton House and its accompanying bar, live music space and restaurant Canteen are what the Bristol arts scene is all about. Canteen is full of interesting characters and good vibes, with two of Bristol’s most famous pieces of street art in the outdoor seating area: Banksy’s Mild Mild West and Cosmo Sarson’s Breakdancing Jesus. Upstairs in Hamilton House is are artists’ studios, workshop spaces and dance classes.

Spike Island

Spike Island is a gallery and working space for artists, designers and creative businesses. As well as public exhibitions, talks and workshops, the annual Open Studios event in May opens the whole building to the public, and UWE arts students showcase their work in one of the most inspiring arty nights in Bristol.
