Bristol on the run
As a place to live, Bristol is hard to beat. As place to run, it’s even better. If you want to see the area and really take the city in, then running provides a great way to explore. There are a number of popular routes and destinations for running, though it can also be fun to explore the city off the beaten track.
The most famous view in Bristol is undoubtedly the Clifton Suspension Bridge. As well as being a popular tourist destination, it is also a practical way of crossing the River Avon. If you follow the road across the bridge, not deviating from the pavement, you will soon get to an arched entrance that marks the boundary of Ashton Court Estate.

Ashton Court Mansion
Of all the destinations to seek out for running, Ashton Court has to be one of the best. A large expanse of green golf courses, winding trails and wooded paths makes it an ideal destination to do your running. Don’t be discouraged by the distance from the city centre. If you have the time, you will find that the run is not too onerous, especially as the scenic route provides plentiful distraction.
is needed now More than ever
If you’re a fresher living up in the Stoke Bishop halls, then there are some great runs available closer to home. The Downs provides the perfect blend of green off-road running, while incorporating some city roads too. If you start from the Stoke Bishop transport hub, you simply follow the bus route around the east side of the Downs until you reach the top of Whiteladies Road. From there you go past Bristol Zoo before cutting uphill along Ladies mile. Then run along circular road, following it round to home, while also passing a couple of popular viewing sites on route.

The Downs is a popular recreation area
If races are more your thing, then look out for the Great Bristol 10k on May 13 2018 where you can enjoy the chance to run on car-free roads including the Portway underneath the Suspension Bridge. If you have time to enter and your legs can take it, the Great Bristol Half Marathon takes place on Sunday, September 17 2017.
Of course, these runs are just a few of many possible routes around Bristol. Wherever you are living, it is well worth slipping on a pair of trainers and taking the opportunity to get out and about in this beautiful city. Bristol is a place that is bursting with life and to run it is a great way to share in the youth and energy of such an amazing place. So, go on, go for a run.
