Bristol24/7 Student Guide 2020: Welcome to UWE Bristol

By Carenza Bramwell  Monday Aug 17, 2020

You’ve chosen UWE Bristol to be your home for the next three years? That’s great! UWE Bristol is one of the most exciting and vibrant universities in the UK.

There is something for everyone at UWE Bristol, including a wide range of societies with everything political to creative societies, and almost every sport you can think of. Societies are a perfect way to meet new people and bond with those who have similar interests to you.

UWE Bristol is a mix of old and new. It is constantly updating and expanding to meet the demands of its students. The central block of the university is the original from when it was opened, but as the cohort of students has grown, so has the need for new buildings. Engineering and business students will be excited to see the multimillion-pound complexes built in the past few years. The new engineering building is set to be fully open by February 2021.

Like with the university, Bristol has something for everyone. Culture, nightlife, food, shopping, history, Bristol has it all. There’s almost too much to take in, but it is worth your while trying to absorb as much of it as possible during your time in Bristol. A must visit place for anyone new to the city is Gloucester Road, a famous haunt amongst students. Described at one point as the “longest street of independent shops”, it has everything from pubs and restaurants, to second hand shops and your everyday necessities. Easily reachable by bus, it is well worth a visit.

It can be daunting moving to a new city and starting university. UWE Bristol has an incredibly welcoming community and it won’t be long before it feels like home. The same goes for the city, so no matter who you are, where you’re from or what you’re studying, there is a place for you. The city and UWE Bristol welcome you.
