UWE students open pop-up shop in The Galleries
The Galleries shopping centre has partnered with UWE Bristol to provide students with an opportunity to test their ideas, products and services, as well as enhance their business skills with one of the available retail units within the centre ubtil the beginning of October.
Earlier in the year, UWE set up two scholarships: the Start-Up Scholarship, which encourages students to develop a new business idea, and the Impact and Innovation Scholarship, which is targeted at students with a creative or enterprising idea.
During the spring/summer term, students were invited to pitch their ideas to a panel, which then lead to ten successful candidates working on developing their product over the summer. With the new academic year upon us, the students have been provided with the necessary platform to carry out a trade test of their product or service within The Galleries.
is needed now More than ever
This also gives customers an opportunity to come and delve into their enterprising ideas, initiatives and skills, with projects spanning the creative arts, science and public engagement, with something new to be seen upon each visit.

The pop-up shop is on the middle floor of The Galleries and will be up until the first week of October
Colin Land, centre manager at The Galleries said: “We’re really pleased to be working in partnership with UWE on this great initiative.” He went on to describe how the opportunity for the students is great for putting “all their acquired skills to the test in a real life scenario”.
Lauren Davis, enterprise skills consultant at UWE Bristol, said: “The Summer Enterprise Scholarships have offered students the chance to test out their ideas for businesses and other enterprising projects in a supportive environment. The option to test trade or showcase their products within The Galleries has been an excellent addition to this project and we are extremely grateful to The Galleries for providing this fantastic opportunity to our students.” Four faculties within the university provided the funding for this scheme.
