This floating cider bar is a renowned treasure among students and locals alike, replete with an array of ciders served by the friendliest crew.

Their most famous elixir is the 8.4% Old Bristolian, with just one of these cider behemoths being enough to confirm you’ll be missing from your 10am lecture the next morning.

The Apple is the perfect place for a relaxed autumnal hang out or a cute date spot looking out into the sunset.

Small Bar

Small in name, but certainly not small in nature! This refi ned and relaxed bar boasts more than 30 taps stocked primarily from South West breweries but also from across the UK and further afield. Look out especially for beers from owners Left Handed Giant (whose other bar in Finzels Reach and brewery tap room in St Philip’s are also well worth exploring).

All beers here are served in either third or two-third glasses, allowing you to try more of the diverse varieties on
offer. Small Bar is certainly the bar to go if you’re thinking of basing your whole uni personality around annoying everyone around you with your insufferably extensive knowledge of beers, but is also a lovely spot for any evening occasion.

Kongs

13-15 King Street, BS1 4EF

A vibrant bar with an array of lush tasting cocktails at affordable prices, it is no wonder that Kongs is a favourite
among Bristol students.

Inside Kongs you’ll find a selection of arcade and pinball machines so retro you’ll start uncontrollably saying words such as “tubular” while professing your undying love for Bob Ross.

This bar is a real marvel of trendy eclecticism and one you will certainly not want to miss out on.

Her Majesty’s Secret Service

Whiteladies Gate, Whiteladies Road, Clifton, BS8 2PH

This cocktail bar was unsurprisingly named among the top in the UK in 2019.

What at first appears like a plain black door close to Clifton Down shopping centre opens into a red telephone box which takes you into a unique James Bond themed bar.

Whether you’re captivated by British patriotism and James Bond memorabilia, or rather just looking for a place to be served some incredible cocktails, then Her Majesty’s Secret Service really is somewhere you have to visit. This gem is truly an essential!

The Gallimaufry vs. The Blue Lagoon

26-28 Gloucester Road, Bishopston, BS7 8AL

18-20 Gloucester Road, Bishopston, BS7 8AE

We all love a good rivalry don’t we.

Those acquainted with the Gloucester Road strip will be familiar with a raging rivalry between two bar powerhouses: the Gallimaufry and the Blue Lagoon.

The Gallimaufry is a bar and restaurant with two floors and a refined food menu to match the opulent nature of the establishment.

Just a few doors down, the Blue Lagoon conversely pride themselves with having one of the finest range of cocktails in Bristol, with their eponymous blue lagoon cocktail being a special treat for any cocktail lover.

Both bars also act as music venues hosting a range of intimate music nights, and both these bars are must-go’s for any fashionable Bristol student.
