How to break free of the student “bubble”
Stuck in the cushioned-life of the university student “bubble”? We’ve all been there.
Even after just a few weeks of term, you will be all too familiar with well-trodden student haunts. But beyond the confines of studentville, Bristol radiates creativity, colour and character in abundance.
Café culture
Why not take your work and study somewhere beyond campus? Bristol is full of quirky independent cafes and coffee shops that would inspire any budding caffeine connoisseur. My top recommendation is Playground Café in the Old City that allows you to sip and enjoy speciality coffee from suspended swings and dabble your hand at a selection of board games.
Volunteering
What better way to burst the student bubble than to get involved in the heart of the community? Volunteering with a charity, group or organisation is rewarding, engaging and gives back to the most vulnerable people in the community. Bristol is valued as a place of sustainability and community support which means that there are a number of amazing local charities to get involved with all over the city.
Sport
From team sports to fitness facilities, there’s certainly enough to satisfy most. But that doesn’t mean you can’t venture further afield in your pursuit of sporting activities. Community and public sports allows you to meet people who share your sporting passion or it may even offer you the chance to try your hand at something a little different from futsal to stand-up paddleboarding.
Festivals
Bristol’s festival scene has a real sense of buzz and excitement surrounding it, attracting attention far and wide for the Balloon Fiesta and Upfest, Europe’s largest street art celebration. For the musically inclined, Bristol boasts events such as Tokyo World and Love Saves The Day. So why not fill your calendar with a few local events to get out and explore the best of what Bristol has to offer?
