Bristol24/7 Student Guide 2020: Volunteering
With venues closed due to Covid-19, you might find yourself with an unexpected surplus of free time.
Volunteering can be a rewarding and helpful way to spend your unused free period, and it can boost your CV too.
Here’s a list of just some of the places you can donate your time to.
is needed now More than ever
Feed the Homeless Bristol
With Bristol’s homeless population on the rise, help is needed now more than ever.
When volunteering for Feed the Homeless, you’ll be helping bring food to some of the city’s most vulnerable residents. You’ll be with an experienced team, walking around the city and distributing food.

Roots Independent Street Team is a similar organisation, based at College Green in the city centre every week.
Go on a litter pick
Whether you organise one yourself with a group of friends, or find a group already going on one, a litter pick can be a great way to get outside and explore Bristol, while also making a difference.
If you want to organise your own with your friends or society, Bristol Waste offers free community litter pick packs.
If you’d rather join one that’s already organised, try checking out local Facebook groups – plenty of groups regularly meet up to pick up litter!
Just Like Us
An LGBTQ+ charity that visits local schools in Bristol and around the country, Just Like Us is an opportunity open to anyone aged 18 to 25 who identifies as LGBTQ+. Volunteers are trained to deliver talks and workshops to schools, and on how to use their voice online through digital content.
A networking opportunity with a chance to make a difference, the deadline to sign up is October 23, 2020.

Bristol Zoo
One for animal lovers, Bristol Zoo’s volunteering program allows those interested to help out in an environment full of varied and diverse species, including gorillas, lions, hippos, and red pandas. More information is available on the zoo’s website.
St Werburgh’s City Farm and Windmill Hill City Farms
If you’ve got green fingers, you’ll love these opportunities. Based in the north and south of the city, respectively, St Werburgh’s City Farm and Windmill Hill City Farm are a slice of the countryside in the heart of the city.
Featuring animals such as goats and chickens, this is another one for animal lovers. To get involved, check out the latest information on www.swcityfarm.co.uk/get-involved/volunteering and www.windmillhillcityfarm.org.uk/get-involved/volunteering/volunteer-vacancies
