Places students can visit just outside Bristol

By Beth Owen  Wednesday Oct 30, 2019

While there is more than enough to keep you busy in this lively city all year round, a change of scenery is always good. There are some marvellous places to explore just a short distance away that would be a shame to miss.

Bath

In just a short ten-minute train journey you can be lapping up the culture of this charming Georgian city. This beautiful city has been a wellbeing destination since Roman Times and has become known for its natural hot springs. Immerse yourself in Bath’s remarkable collection of museums and galleries, and enjoy year-round festivals, theatre, music and sports.

Bath’s superb selection of independent, boutique and major high street shops make it a retail heaven. The Abbey is also worth a visit as is the impressive honey-coloured row of houses of Royal Crescent.

Weston-super-Mare

Whilst Bristol feels like a city very much inland and far from any seaside relaxations, Weston-super-Mare is only a 30-minute journey away. This seaside getaway offers miles of sandy beach to unwind on. The Grand Pier has rides, penny arcade games and fast food, whilst the promenade is home to the Ferris wheel, crazy golf, an indoor  go-kart track and the Seaquarium.

Cheddar Gorge

That’s right, home to the famous cheese we all know and love. Explore one of Britain’s most spectacular natural landmarks. This stunning gorge located in the Mendip Hills is an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Cheddar Gorge & Caves is perfect for thrill-seekers and adventurers, offering caving, rock climbing, abseiling and cliff-top gorge walks. You can also visit the museum of prehistory to uncover the fascinating secrets of our ancestors.
