‘Marma Sutra’ Marmite dark room coming to Bristol

By Mia Vines Booth  Wednesday Oct 25, 2023

A ‘marma sutra’ Marmite dark room is coming to Bristol on Thursday.

New research has revealed that 43 per cent of 18-24 year olds have never tried the divisive breakfast condiment.

As part of a plan to recruit a younger audience, the brand is hosting a dark room in Bristol, in the hopes of “recruiting a new generation of Marmite lovers and haters.”

The dark room will invite Marmite first timers to take a bite in a bid to find out if they are a lover or a hater.

A spokesperson for the brand said: “The no-holds-barred back room is the ultimate place to “experiment” with Marmite.

“Here, our brave Gen Z participants will be able to get their hands on the spread in a variety of different ways.

“With mischievous touches such as toast-dispensing tasting holes and Marmite-y blindfolds, Bristol students and consumers will be encouraged to experiment to find their favourite Marmite ‘tasting positions’, with first-hand reactions captured on film.

“Playfully named “Marma Sutra” recipe booklets will be given to those who ‘pop their Marmite cherry’ at the event.”

The brand is also launching a ‘Marmite Butty Call’ hotline, where young people can have Marmite on toasted items delivered to them within an hour.

Marmite’s brand manager added: “Through this event, Marmite, the ultimate ingredient for tasty breakfasts and late-night snacking alike, is daring First-Timers to give it a try.

“We’re proud to be divisive when it comes to taste, but you’ve got to try it to become a true lover or hater!

“Through the lens of playful innuendo, the Marmite Dark Room will no doubt appeal to Gen Z’s curious and open-minded attitude, aiming to encourage those who haven’t given it a go, to do so and find their perfect spread.”

The marmite dark room will take place at Jacobs on Park Street, near the University of Bristol campus, in what the brand hopes will bring in a large number of students.
