Affordable Art Fair Bristol
- Artists
- Stanley Donwood, Paul O'Dowd, Alex Lucas
Hugely popular annual art fair returns to Bristol.
Alongside dozens of returning favourites, the fairs will feature seven galleries showing at the Bristol event for the first time. Visitors will also be able to explore works by hundreds of artists from Bristol and beyond from just £100-£6,000.
Highlights this year include an opportunity to buy a limited-edition print by an experimental drawing robot and its creator, Paul O’Dowd. Created as part of his research into mimicking complex human drawing and painting gestures in machines, the robot will draw limited edition pieces, designed and programmed by O’Dowd himself.
is needed now More than ever
Elsewhere, the University of the West of England’s Centre for Fine Print Research will be presenting O’Dowd at the fair alongside Stanley Donwood, who has created prints for Radiohead’s album art since the band’s beginning, and 3D print artist and researcher Peter Walters.
For visitors looking to snap up works by the next big thing, the fair will also host a selection of pieces from UWE’s graduating class including Josephine Atkinson, whose highly stylized photographs look at our psychological and sociological relationship with food. Her pieces will be shown alongside installations and sculptures by fellow graduates Connor Lowe and Alice Vaughn, which look to distort perceptions of scale and strength to explore themes of anxiety and obsession.
Elsewhere, visitors will be able to pick up works by the fair’s Artist in Residence, Bristol mural artist Alex Lucas, represented by Bristol-based Clifton Fine Art. Her works on sale will include a limited-edition print run of the motif, inspired by the city’s landmarks, which she designed for this September’s Simplyhealth Great Bristol Half Marathon finisher’s t-shirt.
A portion of the profits from the limited run of 50 prints, each priced at £75, will go to local charity Studio Upstairs who provide holistic support to people who are experiencing enduring mental or emotional difficulties.
