24H Our City was a portrait photography shoot that was realized over the period of 24 hours, from 8am on Tuesday, Dec 5 to 8am on Wednesday, Dec 6 2017.
Over the 24 hours photographer Claudio Ahlers, together with volunteers from UWE’s photography degree, photographed passers-by, artists, residents, activists, tourists, homeless people, professionals and the children, women and men of Stokes Croft in a colourful living room set, designed and built by Sarah at the junction of Stokes Croft and City Road.
is needed now More than ever
“Our space was an invitation to people to come and rest, to make themselves at home, to step away from the hustle and bustle and to evoke a sense of belonging in their lives there on the street that is normally reserved for their domestic and very private settings.
“The resulting photographs document a day in the life of this street and are an homage to this community and its people.
“Stokes Croft is the beating heart of Bristol’s rich and diverse artistic community packed with studios, galleries, event spaces and a hub for political activism and with a strong sense of independence and self-governance.
“This exhibition is dedicated to all of the people who pass through, live or work here, to those who visit and take an interest and to those who no longer have any other place to call their home other than this street.
“To everyone who makes this part of Bristol such a unique and wonderful place.”
Open 9am-8.30pm daily. Opening night Thur, Feb 1, 6pm.
