Ceramics by Bristol-based Liz Davies of Bird Can Fox (formerly Little Birdy).
Liz creates whimsical, animal-themed porcelain figurines and vessels with hand-painted detail.
A Welsh native, Liz studied Fine Art Sculpture at the University of Gloucestershire, which eventually developed into installation and video art and later followed with a masters degree in Filmmaking at the University of Wales.

Despite having never studied ceramics academically, her love for clay work started around age 17, when she first tried it at tertiary college. She kept her hand in with pottery by visiting the ceramic department at her university during her lunch break to develop her hobby and by attending local colleges/ pottery evening classes and courses over the years.
Although her creative work may have been in different subject areas, she believes the unifying theme of storytelling, human nature, the natural world, bold visuals and humour has always run throughout.
A change in circumstances a few years ago meant a career shift and ceramics felt like a familiar and obvious choice having been already attending ceramic evening classes at Maze Studios in Bristol.
Mainly working with porcelain clay, opting for bright colours and patterns along with gold lustre as surface decoration, her figurines usually feature animals with imagined character traits/backstories. ( eg- miserable leopards, idle lions and badly behaved anteaters ) and often have characterful expressions which she says either come through during the hand sculpting process or when decorating with glaze. Her aim is to bring a smile and sense of curiosity to anyone who views her creations.
She recently collaborated with Anthropologie and John Lewis (who came across her work on her Instagram social media account) on a range of animal-based homeware utensils and decorations and is looking forward to running workshops for the first time this year at KILN, Bristol.
