Desire Lines

Date: Thursday, Jun 27 2019 - Friday, Jul 5 2019
Venue: UWE Bower Ashton

Multi-disciplinary project developed over two years by artists Liz Hingley and Savinder Bual, in collaboration with Professor Stephen Hoskins of the University of the West of England’s Centre for Fine Print Research.

The resulting kite artworks are unique large-scale structures created by interweaving traditional print processes, pioneering 3D print techniques and experimentation. Constructed as curved forms inspired by ritual Guatemalan kites, their designs are the product of reworking architectural plans of recycled cityscapes through different printing techniques and materials.

“Kites provide a sense of freedom from our overly programmed and restricted urban spaces in offering a connection to the sky and the natural elements of the weather. They subvert the controlled momentum of the city and challenge the public’s access to the city skyline.”
