Sophie Sherwood
Solo exhibition for this Bristol-based artist currently studying MA Photography at the University of the West of England.
Sophie Sherwood’s latest work, developed over the last year, is about seashells from her home town of Weymouth. Using the digital darkroom, Sherwood opens up the shells’ potential to show that there’s more to these small objects than meets the eye.
By using this technique she exposes the hidden universe inside each piece to illustrate how little we know about our oceans. Like outer space, we take these unknown alien places for granted and expect them to harbour our manmade objects without complaint.
is needed now More than ever
By highlighting these tiny objects Sherwood provides a space in which the viewer can stop and think about the world they live in and how much there is yet to be discovered.
