Emma Rice: Wise Children
Emma Rice is one the UK’s most loved and distinctive theatre directors, creating shows filled with her trademark joy, wonder and magic. In this conversation with Jenny Lacey, Emma chats about her career, the dreams of her new company and her adaptation of Angela Carter’s love letter to theatre, Wise Children.
Angela Carter is widely acknowledged as one of the most important and beguiling writers of recent times. Her work stands out for its bawdiness and linguistic zest, its love of the fantastic, the absurd and for its extraordinary inventiveness and range. Having studied at the University of Bristol, Angela lived in the city for nearly a decade. By the time of her tragic and untimely death, aged just 51, she was firmly established as a writer whose fearlessly original work had reinvigorated the literary landscape and inspired a new generation.
