Raise the Bar host the launch of brilliant poet, Joelle Taylor’s latest collection, Songs My Enemy Taught Me. It’s a collection of back-alley poetry and flick-knife tales detailing women’s global struggle against sexual terrorism and colonisation. Comprised of poetry, text messages, landays, letters, news flashes and personal stories the poems are inspired by news stories from around the world.

The book is published by Out-Spoken Press.

The event will feature a top drawer line up of support acts including Sabrina Mahfouz and Craft-D.

Taylor is an award winning spoken word artist, poet, playwright and author. She has performed across the UK as well as internationally for the British Council (Zimbabwe, Brazil, Botswana) taking in a diverse range of venues from the 100 Club, the 02 Arena, the Royal Festival Hall, the Globe, and Buckingham Palace. She was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Society Arts in 2015 as well as being named as one of Southbank Centre’s Nelson Mandela Change Makers for positively affecting cultural Britain.
