- Vanessa Kisuule, Miles Chambers, Marvin Rees
In May 2016, performance poet and social commentator Miles Chambers was appointed as Bristol’s inaugural City Poet by the newly elected Mayor of Bristol, Marvin Rees. Since then, he has written and performed many poems that have helped illuminate city life and council initiatives such as Bristol Energy. Miles has performed his poems at the Mayor’s Annual State of the City Address; the city council annual meeting; a city twinning celebration; a poetry-reading masterclass celebrating Computershare’s work supporting local pupils with their reading; and as part of Change 300 Futures, a campaign to support 300 aspiring young people from Bristol’s disadvantaged inner-city communities.
This special event, hosted by Marvin Rees, will mark the end of Miles’ term and the appointment of Vanessa Kisuule as the new Bristol City Poet. Miles will perform and talk about some of his favourite commissions before Vanessa reads her first official poem in this role.
All audience members will receive a FREE copy of a selection of Miles’ poetry (RRP £5). Donations to cover the production costs of this publication are welcome on the night in cash.
