Milk Poetry and Raise the Bar’s poetry and spoken word collaboration, Spotlight, present headline poet and performer Birdspeed.

Birdspeed is a storyteller in prose, poetry and dance. Born in London, raised in Barbados, Birdspeed is dedicated to uplifting, empowering and inspiring people through cultural integrity, especially marginalised and disadvantaged communities. She is known for her ability to effortlessly weave storytelling and movement. Her work is often a combination of social commentary and auto-biographical tales including themes on Afrofuturism and Caribbean folklore and feminism.

Birdspeed will be performing a 15 minute poem on Afrofuturism.

This monthly event “puts the Spotlight on the emerging talent pool of Bristol and its surrounding areas, providing a relaxed and welcoming environment for newbies, veterans and anybody in between to perform their work to a warm and intimate audience in the heart of Stokes Croft.”
