Director
Charles Chaplin
Certificate

Running Time
47 mins

In The Pilgrim, Charlie Chaplin‘s little tramp busts out of jail and poses as a clergyman in a small Texas town, where he sets about wooing the lovely Miss Brown (Edna Purviance). All goes swimmingly until a former cellmate shows up…

This Slapstick Festival screening in association with the Festival of Ideas is the launchpad for a timely discussion about whether religion is fair game for comedy. It’s chaired by Andrew Kelly, Director of Bristol Festival of Ideas, and participants include comedians Robin Ince and Lucy Porter, plus The Rev. Emma Langley, Vicar of Westbury Park.
