Bristol Radical Film Festival 2018: Burkinabé Rising

Director
Iara Lee
Running Time
72 mins

On 15 October 1987, Burkina Faso’s President Thomas Sankara was assassinated in a coup d’etat led by his best friend and supposed ally Blaise Campaoré – who went on to rig elections to stay in power for 27 years. Burkinabé Rising is an intensely political documentary showcasing the contemporary reality of creative nonviolent resistance in this small landlocked West African country, where a 2014 people’s revolt forced Campaoré into exile.
