Commander Arian + Q&A

Director
Alba Sotorra
Certificate
18
Running Time
85 mins

In the Syrian countryside, 30 year-old military commander Arian leads her battalion of women as they fight ISIS. For her, the armed struggle is the only path to emancipation from a deeply patriarchal society. At her side, director Alba Sotorra documents the liberation of the city of Kobane and uncovers the reality of life at the frontline.

This Bristol Kurdish Solidarity Network event also includes a screening of the short film Rojava – A call to Arms, which follows the life of an international volunteer fighting with the YPG (People’s Protection Units), the mixed fighting units of Rojava. There will also be a Q&A with a YPG volunteer, who’ll be sharing first-hand knowledge and experiences.
