The Doom Doc + live performance

Director
Connor Matheson
Certificate
18
Running Time
90 mins

Billed as “an extreme film about extreme music”, this crowdfunded documentary explores the UK’s booming doom metal scene through the prism of Sheffield-based DIY collective Holy Spider Promotions. In addition to exploring doom metal’s origins in the music of the hugely influential Black Sabbath, Connor Matheson‘s documentary also delves into such issues as drug use, mental health and gentrification as it follows the promoters’ battle to gain attention and space for this extreme, polarising and rather wonderful music. Interviewees include members of Conan and Primitive Man as well as former Sabbath bassist Bill Ward and drummer Vinny Appice and Kirk Windstein of New Orleans sludgers Crowbar.

The Cube’s screening is followed at 6pm prompt by a five-band gig featuring acts included in the film, namely 11 Paranoias, Kurokuma, A Horse Called War, Shrykull and Under. There are limited number of cheap combined tickets for both events. Go here for further information and tickets.
