A new documentary charting Ella Fitzgerald‘s life and work over five decades, from her origins as a 15-year-old street kid who won a Harlem talent contest in 1934 to becoming one of the world’s biggest stars. Featuring previously unseen footage, the film also explores her struggles against racism and commitment to civil rights.

Contributors include Tony Bennett, Jamie Cullum, Laura Mvula, Johnny Mathis, Smokey Robinson, Cleo Laine, Andre Previn, Norma Miller, Patti Austin, Izsak Perlman, Margo Jefferson, Will Friedwald and Ella’s son, Ray Brown Jr.
