Ex Libris: The New York Public Library

Director
Frederick Wiseman
Certificate
TBA
Running Time
197 mins

Veteran documentarian (he’s 88, you know) Frederick Wiseman turns his attention to the New York Public Library, exploring all aspects of its work, in a film that won the FIPRESCI award at the Venice Film Festival.

If you’re a newcomer to Wiseman’s studies of great American institutions, be warned that he takes a very leisurely approach (that running length is not a misprint) and doesn’t bother with explanatory captions or background information, preferring to simply show what goes on in fly-on-the-wall style.
