A timely feminist sailing documentary chronicling the story of the first all-female team to compete in the Whitbread Round the World Race three decades ago.

Naturally, the condescending press treated skipper Tracy Edwards and her crew as little more than a novelty, snorting with derision at what was obviously a doomed attempt to join this particular boys’ club. Sponsors proved resistant too, fearing the negative publicity that could result when, as expected, the Maiden failed to reach the finishing line – or worse. But indefatigable Tracy refused to give up despite these setbacks and many others, making for a suitably rousing and inspirational film that draws heavily on archive footage.
