Jennifer Peedom, director of the BAFTA-nominated Sherpa, serves up a suitably majestic portrait of snowy peaks and the foolhardy daredevils who clamber up them so we don’t have to. Shot in 21 countries by legendary mountaineer/cinematographer Renan Oztu, with a suitably evocative orchestral score (Chopin, Grieg, Vivaldi, Beethoven, etc), the film is narrated by Willem Dafoe, who reads a text by Mountains of the Mind author Robert Macfarlane.
It adds up to a suitably breath-taking adrenaline rush that can be savoured without leaving your comfy cinema seat.
