The Destruction of Memory + Q&A

Director
Tim Slade
Certificate
TBA
Running Time
81 mins

Based on the book Robert Bevan, this important new documentary explores the war against culture, which has been increasing in Syria and Iraq with seemingly endless destruction of heritage.

Tim Slade’s film goes further than the barbarism of ISIS to argue that this destruction is not simply an consequence of conflict but rather a targeted, systematic effort to erase the cultures and identities of entire peoples – a war on culture that has, in fact, been waged for decades. Interviewees include the Director-General of UNESCO, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and a wide range of international experts and activists. The director will be present for a Q&A session after this Bristol Festival of Ideas event.
