Tony Klinger‘s documentary about his father Michael explores how he rose from humble origins (er, the Soho porn industry of the 1960s) to become one of Britain’s most successful independent film producers from the 1960s to the 1980s, whose credits included Polanski’s Repulsion and Cul-de-sac as well as the Mike Hodges crime classic Get Carter.
Tony Klinger will be present to introduce this screening, which is preceded by a talk by Andrew Spicer, Professor of Cultural Production at the University of the West of England, who will be giving an overview of how Jewish exhibitors, distributors and producers shaped the evolution of the British film industry from its early beginnings to the present. The event is part of the Jewish Historical Society’s Jewish History Month.
